7 Reasons Why Grilling Knocks Our Socks Off

There’s just something special about a grilled meal you can’t get from any other type of cooking. America has had a long love affair with grilling – even George Washington was into it. Turns out our first president kept detailed records of each barbecue he went to. He even stayed up all night at one of those barbecues. That’s some serious grilling!

You, me, and George Washington. What is it that makes grilling our favorite way to cook?

–Smoky flavor. There’s really no other way to get that smoky flavor on your food. Don’t get us wrong — stove-top cooking is great when you’re rushed, and we’ve had some great meals made in the oven. But grilled food always takes the cake.

–Large cooking surface. Hamburgers, hot dogs, buns, veggies. Whatever you’ve got, we’re sure there’s room for it on the grill. No wonder it’s easy to make a huge meal for a whole bunch of your favorite people — and still have leftovers.

–Entertaining family and friends. Speaking of favorite people, a backyard barbecue is the ideal way to entertain. Given how quickly food cooks on a grill, it’s a breeze to prepare several burgers in a matter of minutes. If you’re a pizza fan, quickly churn out personal pizzas instead of waiting half an hour for your oven to preheat.

–Eating outdoors. Eating on the deck, patio, or lawn is a special kind of fun. There’s nothing like eating a fresh meal on a warm summer night or crisp fall day.

–Experimentation. Barbecue is a great way to try out things you haven’t before. Are you a casual griller looking to try something more intense? Your first brisket will be a good challenge. Are you a seasoned griller looking to expand your arsenal? Try a salt plate. The grill is a great place to let your creative juices flow.

–Fire. It’s not just that it makes our food taste amazing. Just being around fire adds some excitement to the cooking process. Knowing that you could burn your food (and maybe your eyebrows) means it’s extra satisfying when you successfully harness all that heat!

–Nostalgia. Cooking on the grill takes us back to lazy days. Anyone who ever went to a barbecue as a kid knows how fun it was — and sometimes it’s nice to recreate it years later!

Mmm, we’re getting hungry just thinking about it. Maybe it’s time to fire up the grill! We’re thinking a couple steaks and some stuffed bell peppers on the side. Let us know what you plan to grill next!
