Five Ways to Use Himalayan Salt Chillers

Bloody Marys and Salty Dogs and margaritas – oh my! We could sip these salty cocktails all day long, so you can imagine how thrilled we were when we heard that we’re releasing Himalayan Salt Chillers here at the Companion Group.

Himalayan salt has taken the world by storm in the past few years, with people cooking up whole meals on the grill or in the kitchen with that subtle salty flavor and crispness that only Himalayan salt can impart. It only makes sense to bring some of this deliciousness to the world of booze. As soon as we laid eyes on this set of 10 cubes of top-notch Himalayan salt, our inner mixologist came out to play. After testing various ideas, we settled on a few that we had to share with you:

  • Rather than rimming a margarita with salt, considering tossing in a salt chiller instead. Make sure to keep the salt chiller in the freezer for at least an hour before placing in the drink – that way it’ll add flavor while also keeping your drink ice cold!

  • Try a salt chiller in a sweet tropical drink like a Mango Peach Sangria, Mai Tai, or mojito. The salt provides a contrast to the sweetness and brings out the fruity flavors. Mmmm.

  • Remember, there’s no need to stick to tried-and-true recipes! Try making your own cocktail from scratch. Vodka and rum go well with salt. Start there and add some of your favorite ingredients: maybe lime juice, simple syrup, and some bitters? Or perhaps you prefer grapefruit juice? You might surprise yourself with how much you like your concoction.

  • Let the kids join in on the fun! No, we don’t suggest allowing them to taste test your cocktails, but they can certainly experiment by putting a Himalayan Salt Chiller in a non-alcoholic drink to spark a conversation about flavor and taste. Let them sip a little orange juice by itself, then toss a salt chiller in there and ask them if they notice any change. Ask them to “use their words” to describe the difference in flavor.

  • Himalayan Salt Chillers aren’t just for drinks. You can also use them as miniature servers to add a fancy touch to your next meal at home. If you’re having sushi at home, you can place ginger or wasabi on a couple of salt cubes to imbue them with a subtle salty flavor. Or try topping the salt cubes with some Emmentaler, gouda or havarti and pair the cheeses with your favorite crackers.

However you choose to use your Himalayan Salt Chillers, remember that the longer they come in contact with your food and drinks, the more salt is imparted. Keep an eye on the salt cubes and take them out at just the right moment. And once you’ve experimented a little, please drop us a note! We’d love to hear about your cocktail creations or fun appetizer ideas.
